Community unites to form the Killoo Church Restoration Group to save and conserve the historic church and grounds.
In 2023, the Killoo Church Restoration Group was formally established by local residents and friends of Killoo who shared a deep concern for the deteriorating state of this historic site. The once-proud church and its surrounding grounds had suffered from decades of neglect, with structural decay, overgrowth, and collapsing boundary walls threatening both the safety and survival of the monument.
The group set out with clear goals:
- To conserve the church structure before further decline occurred.
- To repair the historic boundary walls.
- To improve safe access for visitors to the site.
From the outset, the commitment of the community was evident. Local residents, along with our County Councillors, Local Authority Officials and State Agencies (National monuments) offered their support and encouragement, laying the foundation for the important conservation work that lay ahead.
